  I have lived in the Twin Cities since the early 1970s and have owned horses since then. Depending on where I was boarding, I often used the services of Stillwater Equine. In 2012 my mare was exhibiting some odd behavior in the pasture so I contacted Stillwater Equine. Toby Sheely ended up coming out a few times to run some tests. Toby is great. He's knowledgeable and personable. I ended up having to bring my mare to the clinic for a day or two for more frequent testing. It was determined that she had a tumor on her ovary and although this particular tumor was usually benign, the ovary needed to be removed as the tumor was causing an imbalance in her hormones and that resulted in undesirable behavior. In Fall 2012 my mare was dropped off on a Sunday at the clinic for surgery the following a.m. Dr. Arnesen was the surgeon. I expected that once the surgery was done that someone--most likely the doctor--would call me to let me know how she was doing. When 4:00 p.m. came without a call from the clinic, I phoned. I was told that Dr. Arnesen wasn't available but a message would be passed to him. Dr. Arnesen called me--I think it was that afternoon. Based on his tone of voice and the manner in which he talked to me, it was very apparent that he was annoyed that I was "bothering" him. Dr. Arnesen didn't seem to understand why I needed a status update! Really??!! My horse just had MAJOR surgery to the tune of about $1200-$1400 and he couldn't be BOTHERED to even let me know if she was dead or alive??!!! Maybe he's a very good doctor when it comes to the technical aspect of being a DVM but he has ZERO customer service skills.
